Own your stuff.

We own a lot of stuff and need to manage it properly. It is valuable for the memories they hold and we need to take good care of them. When no longer wanted we need to rehome them.

Own your impact.

The results of overconsumption is piling up in landfill. We need to turn things around ...

Own your business’ impact.

Let's be excited about overturning pollution and waste related to over consumption ... and make the planet great again.

Together

… we can do this

"The Clever Label" is here to help make the planet great again.
Industrial scene with a power plant and smokestacks emitting smoke in the background. In the foreground, there's a worn office chair surrounded by debris and pallets on a gravel surface. The sky is overcast.

So, what’s the problem?

Waste is running high and landfill is running low. Pollution is on the rise, the planet is warming and clean energy is not widely available. Recent global events may impact the supply chain and we may head into a recession, helping us to value our stuff more.

Governments are trying to address this through circular economy initiatives where we pass on, re-use, repurpose or recycle more of the unwanted stuff that clutters our homes.

Design choices for our goods are shifting from “fast” to steadfast with governments stepping in to add a levy to goods that are choosing to stay “disposable”.

You may not yet care about this, but it won’t be long until its going to hit us all in the back pocket, in one form or another. What will you do with your unwanted stuff when you can no longer simply throw it away?

How can I help?

Buy less new stuff. If we cut spending on belongings and just held onto our existing stuff twice as long before replacing it, guess what - we’d cut fossil fuel emissions by half! The planet would be saved from human impact. Well, in theory anyway. Ofcourse, if we did this then Gross Domestic Product (GDP) would probably fall considerably and governments might start to worry about their revenue. So what else can we do?

We can buy brands that are doing the right thing and making their products greener and last longer. By choosing brands that reflect these values we will encourage others to follow. They need to be honest with their claims and help us to rehome their goods when no longer wanted.

We can also replace more of our existing items with pre-loved items rather than reaching for new products.

Another way is to take good care of our existing belongings and get them repaired, whenever possible. When an item is no longer wanted we can pass it on by selling or donating it, consciously removing landfill as an option. Ofcourse many of us try hard to rehome our items already, with the limited free time we have, but it’s often difficult to find anyone to take them, let alone pay money for them. What can we do, except for placing them outside our homes, hoping for someone to take them, or just wait until the next council cleanup?

The Clever Label is here to support you in the circular economy.

“The circular economy is a model of production and consumption, which involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products as long as possible. In this way, the life cycle of products is extended.”

European Parliament, 24 May 2023

How does The Clever Label work?

In a nutshell … it’s a doozy of an online database that stores lots of useful information about our individual belongings:

  • when & where they were made, from what materials & their eco footprint

  • how to care for them

  • options of where it can go after you’ve finished using it

  • easy rehoming marketplace that joins all players in the circular economy

  • … and much much more.

Each item has a unique QR code that stays with the item from “cradle to cradle” … another way of saying its been created by a manufacturer or maker from raw materials and then is re-created into something else at the end of it’s life.

If you purchase an item with The Clever Label already on it, or put one on an existing item, there is also a handy rehoming function to get your lost property back to you. The product could have a physical label attached or it can be forwarded electronically.

Is this for me?

You can benefit from The Clever Label if you own household stuff, which ofcourse we all do! There are lots of benefits on offer, based on what stuff you have and how you choose to use The Clever label. The more people we get on board, the better for all.

If you are involved in a commercial enterprise that plays a part in making, selling, repairing, reusing, repurposing and recycling personal or commercial belongings, then the Clever Label is for you! You can find both “suppliers” and “customers” of pre-loved goods.

It is also for corporate businesses that need to better “own their stuff”, or for organisations that deal with high volumes of lost property.
